St Mary's Copythorne works closely with two church schools - Copythorne CE Infants and Bartley CE Juniors. The ties between the schools and the church are strong and we are very privileged to work with the staff and pupils.
St. Mary’s Church, Copythorne supports the two church schools Copythorne Infants and Bartley Juniors. We work in partnership with the schools to nurture an ethos which is child centred, focussed on learning and developing an experience of school which builds confidence from the inside out. Rev’d John, our Priest-in-Charge regularly leads worship in both schools and works with children in their classes. On both Governing bodies we have committed Foundation Governors (church appointed governors) who help shape and direct the work of the schools. Visits to the church are an important element for the children in both schools – especially in the celebration of the major Christian festivals.
We believe confidence for each child comes from an appreciation that they are somebody – not because of their achievements – but because they are simply who they are (and nothing more!). This confidence is caught by the children through an ethos which communicates acceptance and a willingness to make mistakes at every opportunity. The church community looks to encourage this at each stage of our children’s education. If children learn confidence like this, then they truly learn something for life which will enable them to be resilient in the face of all the complexities and challenges of life and be happy in every circumstance.
We believe this is what God wants for each one of us – and our schools form an incredibly important element in learning this.
We are very privileged to work in this way for our church schools. If you require any further information re the church school aspect of the schools please do not hesitate to contact us.
